Through a generous sponsorship from Catalyst Connection, we are able to offer the following workshops and intensives at a discount. These classes are geared toward those who are interested in manufacturing careers related to welding and general metals, 3D modeling and printing, and electronics.

Soldering – SOLD OUT! (1/25 @ 6pm)

Students will learn how to solder electronic components to a circuit board in addition to other fundamental skills used to assemble a Bluetooth wireless speaker.

We’ll outline the basics of soldering irons, proper soldering techniques, electronic kit assembly, bench power supply, hot air rework stations, and how to replace PTH (Pin Through Hole) components on printed circuit boards!

3D Modeling – SOLD OUT! (Starts on 2/1 @ 6pm)

Join Reggie Raye, as he walks you through how to create simple, smart forms in Autodesk Fusion 360! You’ll realize your designs as you learn how to rapidly prototype your ideas on the 3D printer.

Over the course of four weeks, you’ll learn how to create three-dimensional forms using 3D modeling software. As you develop these skills, you’ll experience the full design-to-execution process using rapid prototyping techniques on 3D printing technologies. We’ll cover troubleshooting your prototypes as well as several other of Fusion 360’s features including rendering and technical drawings.

Class Dates:

This is an intensive, four-session course designed for up to 6 students with up to 2 hours of homework between sessions. There will be optional peer meet-ups to complete necessary homework.

MIG Welding 101 – SOLD OUT! (2/7 @ 6pm)

Join Karen Kocher as she walks you through basic welding techniques to create a sculptural bookend— all while learning to operate our MIG welder!

This class is designed to impart a strong foundation for beginners so that participants can safely develop accurate and efficient work. You’ll get hands-on experience creating an assortment of basic metal joints as you focus on the proper and safe use of our welding equipment. Whether you’re already a member or choose to become one in the future, taking this class will gain you clearance to use our MIG welder.

Metal 101: Basic Skills & Equipment – SOLD OUT! (2/17 @ 1pm)

Learn the safe, careful, and clean use of our General Metal Working tools in this three hour intensive with Karen Kocher.

This class is designed to impart a strong foundation for beginners so that participants can safely develop accurate and efficient work. It focuses on the proper and safe use of metal working equipment like our arbor press, bench and disc grinders, drill press, and vertical metal bandsaw.

Whether you’re already a member or choose to become one in the future, taking this class will gain you clearance to use our General Metalworking Equipment independently.

MIG Welding Intensive – SOLD OUT! (Starts on 2/28 @ 6pm)

Join local Karen Kocher as she walks you through the techniques needed to get started in welding in this 4-week intensive (list of dates at bottom of description).

Over the course of four weeks, you will learn the fundamentals of MIG welding and metal fabrication. Get hands-on practice cutting metal components, operating the welder, creating various weld patterns,  grinding and cleaning up your pieces, and professionally finishing your steel tube structure with Powder Coat.

Not only will you gain the skills needed to make a modern end table with a beautiful wood top and powder coated steel frame, you will finally have a place to set your cup. (Just make sure you use a coaster).
